Family outing to Ubin 5 Sept 2015

My children were born on an island.
But they have no idea what island living is all about.

So on this particular Saturday morning, I brought them to Pulau Ubin.

They had their share of sun, sand, sea, jungles, tracks, insects, crabs, mudskippers, mangroves,wild boars and did I mention sun?

And they said they didn't want to go back there ever again..

/me faints.

We were invited by the owners of Sarah's Pancakes for this special event as they were visited by the 501st Singapore Garrison.

As my kids and me are all Star Wars's fans, we couldn't resist the chance to meet them Storm Troopers.

After visiting Sarah's Pancakes for the first time, we became their fans too!

It's been a while since Alex and me went for a shoot together.

Alex also helped me tested my Nissin flash against his Canon 580EX II flash.

It turned out that my Nissin DI866 MKII needed a flash power reduction on the Flash Compensation function on my Canon 6D body

Last staycation at Fairmont 12-14 Dec 2014

Possibly our last staycation there since the Feed@Raffles membership card no longer includes free 1 night stay at its chain of hotels in Singapore.

Nonetheless, we had a good time and took many photos.

Amaze and Awe of Nature by Tiny Eyes

When we were younger, we are often amazed by tiny things seen by our tiny eyes.

Perhaps it's the height and eye level of young children that makes them more observant about the flora and fauna around them.

Or maybe it is because as we grow older, our eyes, together with our materialistic desires, are set to see only bigger things.

As we eradicate more and more of our natural environment to build taller offices, condominiums and shopping malls that will awe the grown-ups, we tend to forget to leave some space for the younger generation.

Space for them to be amazed by the simple things such as an eight legged spider weaving its web, a colony of ants building an anthill, a host of shield bugs huddling together under a leaf, a grasshopper molting away its old skin or watch a stick insect slowly revealing itself from its camouflage.

While we had the chance to be amazed by the flora and fauna around us when we were younger, our next generation of children might not be able to experience the amazement of catching spiders, grasshoppers, butterflies and blowing dandelions.

Conserve what little nature we have left, so the children can continue to be amazed the same way that we had been during our younger days.

The pictures below were taken along Sungei Serangoon, on one of the Sengkang Park Connectors.

More Lower Peirce Reservoir Night Macro Expedition 29 Sept 2012

I ventured deeper into the reservoir park at Lower Peirce.

The sound of the jungle at night was creepy and there was a risk of meeting wild boars as there were some spotted there in recent years.

The air was thick and so was the undergrowth but the man-made track was wide enough for me and my gear without having to brush and disturb the insects as I walked along the track.

It was a nightful of spiders yet again.

Old Man in Void Deck Staring into the Void.

Was at Toa Payoh when I saw this old man at a void deck of a HDB flat.

Around the old man were some stray cats, so I took some shots of the cats initially and later on, I swapped to use my tele-photo [70-300mm IS] and turned on "LiveView" to take some shots without the subject knowing...

I need a shave..

The world can wait, let me finish this puff first..

Singapore F1 eve of training race

Since I do not have any Singapore F1 2011 tickets, I couldn't take pictures of the actual race.

Well, the tracks are all lit up on the eve of the first race and I thought I try my luck to see if I can walk into the area.

I'd always drive past the ECP Rochor exit and there is a small footpath along the exit that allows a good shot to the starting line.. And since the roads were closed that night, I had to park quite some distance away and walk towards the highway..

Here are the pictures I took at 2am on 22 Sept 2011.

I also tried some creative effects with Gimp to create the tilt-shift [ toy camera ] effect.

The result of this effect makes everything looks like miniature. See pic below.

Admiralty Park Macro Shoot 22 Feb 2011

Buddy Alex Neo texted me "Good weather and clear sky today!" in the morning.

So I took half day leave and we went to shoot some insects at Admiralty Park.

Here are some better macro shots of the insects we found.

Compound eyes!

White Spider that resembles a crab. Very small eyes!

Favourite Macro Bug, stays still and poses for long periods of time.

This bug looks almost like a fish!

Years ago, I'd be with friends partying all night, drowning myself in alcohol.

Now I appreciate the time I have to pursue my hobby.

Midnight Drive By Shooting

It was a late Friday night, I couldn't sleep due to a heavy dinner.

I thought I needed a walk.

My inner monologue went like this..

"If you are going for a walk, you might as well bring along your camera gear, since you may just find something interesting to shoot..


Well, hey, since you are bringing along the camera gear, you might as well bring your car keys to get your tripod in the car.. "

So I had my walk to the car.
As I reached the car, I hear my inner monologue again..


"You might as well go for a drive and see what comes along"

And so I drove.

I drove towards the fire station across Coleman Street to take some pictures of it as I recalled that the building had a nice glow when lit at night.

Sadly as I reached there, the lights were all turned off.

So I turned into Fort Canning Road, thinking I can make a U-turn there.
The Fort Canning Road became a one way street in less than 200m and I had to drive up Fort Canning Hill in order to exit via Clemenceau Ave.

But along the way, something caught my eye.
It was a memory of more than 9 years ago.

On the foot of Fort Canning Park is the Registrar of Marriages.

Most couples will have their couple portraiture taken in this area of Fort Canning Park.

So did Mr and Mrs Neo on 06 Oct 2001.

All of these photos were taken with the Tamron 17-50mm non-vc.
